Early Years Foundation Stage
Every child deserves the best start in life with support to reach their full potential. The EYFS is a framework that provides parents with the assurance that the Early Years setting will keep their children safe and help them to thrive.
The EYFS has four themes, which guideĀ the work of all practitioners:
A Unique Child recognises that every child is a competent learner from birth. The commitments are: Child Development, Inclusive Practice, Keeping Safe and Health & Well-Being.
Positive Relationships describes how children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a Key Person. The commitments are: Respecting Each Other, Parents as Partners, Supporting Learning and Key Person.
Enabling Environments explains that the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning. The commitments are: Observation, Assessment & Planning, Supporting Every Child, The Learning Environment and The Wider Context.
Learning and Development recognises that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected. The commitments are: Play & Exploration, Active Learning, Creativity & Critical Thinking and Areas of Learning and Development (Personal, Social & Emotional Development, Communication, Language & Literacy, Problem Solving, Reasoning & Numeracy, Knowledge & Understanding of the World, Physical Development and Creative Development).
